One hazmat truck, six counties,
one dispatcher who writes back.
Regionally licensed fuel and gas carrier serving the Maryland-Virginia-DC corridor from the La Plata hub since 2013.
Below: how the operation started, the DOT and hazmat credentials carried on every run, the six counties on the dispatch board today, and the founder-operator behind the radio.
History & mission
From a single-truck run to a four-line dispatcher.
A timeline of the operation, kept short on purpose. Same DOT# on every run since the carrier was registered; the service lines are what expanded.
Mission
A regional carrier that runs on a small scale and answers the phone.
Tank Taxi is built around a single DOT-registered hazmat truck out of La Plata, Maryland and a dispatcher who knows every run. The mission is narrow: deliver the gas, the diesel, the propane, or the heater to addresses in the six counties on the dispatch board, with a written quote the same business day and a real person on the end of the email.
No call centers. No bots. No surge pricing for after-hours windows — after-hours runs are scheduled or declined, never billed as an extra.

Founded out of La Plata, MD
Started as a single-truck bottled-gas run out of the La Plata yard — one driver, one dispatcher, six counties on a hand-drawn route board.
- 2015
DOT# 3414259 issued · hazmat classes 2.1, 3, 9
Registered as TANK TAXI LLC. with USDOT and PHMSA hazmat authority. Placarded, manifest-per-run, pre-trip inspections became standard on every load.
- 2018
Propane exchange program added
Added cylinder exchange for stores, restaurants, and contractors with predictable turnover — same truck and DOT#, drop-and-go service.
- 2021
Fleet fueling on-site
On-site diesel and gasoline refueling for yards and overnight staging with driver-ready logs — bracketed off the bottled-gas schedule so neither line waits on the other.
- 2024
Patio heater rentals
Propane patio heaters delivered, placed, and exchanged for the season or the run of an event — a fourth service line off the same hazmat-registered truck.
Credentials & safety
DOT-registered. Hazmat-certified. Written for every county.
Hazmat-registered · liquids & gases · since 2013. The credentials and safety program items below run on every delivery — they’re the same on a one-cylinder residential drop as on a fleet-fueling overnight.
USDOT #3414259
DOT-registered motor carrier in good standing. Federal motor carrier number active; carrier profile on file with the FMCSA.
Hazmat classes 2.1 · 3 · 9
Class 2.1 (flammable gas — propane), Class 3 (flammable liquid — gasoline, diesel), Class 9 (miscellaneous — heating oil, lubricant).
Safety program
Driver placarding, pre-trip inspections, leak checks on every bottled-gas delivery, manifest per run, cylinder-handling training, and after-hours windows scheduled — not on-call.
Service area
Six counties on the dispatch board,
all within reach of the La Plata hub.
Charles County is the origin hub — the truck and the dispatcher both run out of La Plata. The rest of the board is reachable from the same yard in a single round trip.

The founder-operator.
Owner / Dispatcher — Tank Taxi LLC.
Tank Taxi is a founder-operator outfit. The same person who keeps the DOT file and the hazmat registration is on the dispatch board, answers the inbox, and decides which runs the truck takes in the morning. Ten years of hazmat carrier operations from the La Plata yard — bottled gas, exchange cylinders, on-site fleet fueling, patio heaters.
The aim is a small operation that’s good at a specific thing: a same-day written quote from a real address, a hazmat truck that shows up on the day you agreed to, and a dispatcher who writes back. It is not the cheapest fuel transport in the DMV and it isn’t trying to be — it’s the one where the reply comes from the operator, not a queue.
